From recycling cardboard into furniture to higher technology attempts at going green

SOLAR PANELS

March 2011 - We still love them!

The panels were put in place in September 2006  The new tank is double the normal size but the temperature rise has been significant - from 18 to 32 degress C in 3 hours despite the changeable weather.

Even on a clear day in winter the temperature rises in the vacuum tubes and the pump clicks on raises the temperature of the water in our hot water tank. Of course this helps save money when heating the house with the radiators.

HEATING and COOKING

No more oil - just collecting wood!
The TIBA is a Swiss creation and certainly works as a terrific boiler. In winter when it is not too cold we start the fire in the afternoon. It then heats the water (once it has been helped by the solar panels) and can be adjusted to heat the whole house as well as cook the evening meal.
