People Potential runs short interesting practical courses at Plum Cottage
APT courses - Appropriate Paper-based Technology (http://www.floodmeadows.com/apbt/) uses basic engineering principles to make weak materials strong. The weak materials are paper and cardboard and these can be recycled into surprisingly strong items of furniture, useful household objects and unique artwork. Chairs and sofas have been in daily use for over 16 years.
